I live on a dead end street so there is only one way in and out to get to my house.  The beginning part of my street has turned into a mini lake.  We measured the water and its 5" deep and very large.  My daugher can't walk down the street after school as there is no where to go so I have her cutting across yards to get to our house.  I have been in contact with Dirk at DOT and he said with the recent lay offs it will be months before they can inspect the road so he sent me to another office who fills pot holes.  This is not a pot hole its a mini lake.  I was told to call the fire department and have them inspect because if there trucks could get damaged going down my road I can get this done quicker.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this resolved?  If we keep getting rain I will need a small boat to leave my house.  Granted I live at the end of the dead end but I still have to leave everyday for work and such......I am at my wits end with this problem.
Laundry should be the only thing we seperate by color.

I was going to suggest lee county DOT but you have been there so I would call the fire dept and see if that will help.

I believe Lee County DOT is where you need to go but since they don't seem to be able to help right now let's try another tactic. You really should not be having this much of a problem right now.

Let me ask you a question or two.
1. Are the canals near your home full of water? (I mean a lot of water, filled to the top)
2. Do the road right of ways other than your street have substantial standing water?
3. Is the water in the road swale moving?

If the answer to all the questions above is no, then Lee County DOT definately needs to be involved.

Call East County Water Control District (368-0044), ask for Mike Cook. Tell Mike your problem, ask him if there are flooding problems in your area. Ask Mike if someone could check for obstructions that would prevent water exiting the road swales and entering the drainage canal. Let me know what happens if you do not get a satisfactory answer.

No the canal is not full of water and that canal is by the dead end part of my street.
No my street is the only one that floods
no the water doesnt move.

From what my husband said we have no drainage at all.

But I will call and see what they have to say.......but I am going to bug DOT about every 2 weeks on this issue as something has to be fixed I can't keep going throught this mini lake that has now formed at the bottom of my street.  Today is the first day the water has started to go away but if we get just the slightest amount of rain its back to flooded again.  I guess this is the price I pay for living in the middle of now where.

Good news......someone came out yesterday to fill the "pot holes" so I have a temp fix which is better than nothing. Hopefully this will give more time to DOT to come out and inspect to pave the street. I was so happy driving down my road without falling in to large holes.

From what you describe there is a "grade" issue with the swells that should funnel the water toward the canal. This obviously is not happening. I would still recommend you calling the East County Water Control District office to confirm. They also may be of support to your effort with LeeDOT as they are ultimately responsible for the drainage to the canal.

If you will PM me with the location of your property I may be able to help you or offer additional strategies to correct this problem. Otherwise, keep calling LeeDOT and explain that your street is the only one flooded in your area and it is causing the road to deteriorate because of the continued flooding.
