So I am out in my driveway last week grilling, off to the south I hear a familiar sound - an AK-47 being fired, semi auto.. After about 30 rounds it stops. My son and I kind of looked at each other while they were firing...

Last night I am grilling once again, storms were rolling in, lots of thunder, off in the same direction I hear the AK again, but this time it is running full auto. I guess they figured out how to make it do that finally.

I would say they were south of 23rd, maybe off of Sara. I would say maybe a mile from my location or less. Now I am all for shootin, especially full auto, but certainly not in Lehigh. I am sure quite a few neighbors over that way heard it, I guess it is ok as I hear gunfire all the time.

Is there a gun range between 23rd and 82 I do not know about????? or is it ok to blast away in our backyards??!!!!

stratman, I have moved this topic you started to the LCSO section. This will alert LCSO Rep, and will allow him to read your post.

Maybe there can be some action taken, or advice given by LSCO Rep. This really sound dangerous. Thanks for posting this information.

I agree - it is dangerous. I have only been here a few months, and I hear a lot of gunfire from the same area. I do not believe most machine gun owners (legal) would jeopardize ownership by shooting in their back yard. Was funny they were using the cover of thunder to test it. They were shooting about 5 round bursts, one mag's worth and that was it. Obviously they were testing their handiwork.

I have a real problem with armed crooks. I am really surprised no one reports the gunfire. Maybe they do not want to make them mad. They have to live here too....

One day, their AK will be used to commit a crime, and we will all get to hear about it. Would bet they cannot even legally own an AK.....or any other gun for that matter.

LCSO Rep, I really do think you need to look into this issue. If it is an AK47, then these rounds can travel a long way, and we don't need stray bullets hitting one of our residents.

Stratman, you can also send LCSO Rep a Private Message if you want him to contact you directly. I am sure he would like to hear from you.

I am glad to see people getting involved.

I was personally told by a LCSO that in unincorporated parts of lee county you can fire a weapon, legally. Question is how many homeowners have a 25' earthen birth to catch any stray bullets from zinging thru your neighbor or neighbors house ? Common sense tells the average person this is not a good idea, unfortunatly "common sense" is not used around here on a daily basis.

The issue you bring up is a very serious one for the health and safety of our community. The LCSO representative to whom you talked was correct. There are no county laws against discharging fire arms in the unincorporated areas of Lee County. BUT call the sheriff’s office the instant you hear the gun fire again. There are other issues that can come into play that can be used to protect the citizens of Lehigh Acres.

Thank you for your concern and support in making our community a safer place to live.

I know this thread is old,but the issue of gunfire is still relevant.I know exactly what all of you are talking about.I live barely a block from SR82 near sunshine and alabama.I hear gun shots quite often in the west/sw direction.Heard everything from handguns repeatedly being fired off at night to the low thud sound of an AK.Though I heard the rifle type shots in the daytime.I'm sure it's probably coming from the Rod & Gun Club area. There's a privately owned range down that way just off 82 near Daniels Pkwy.I don't pay any attention to it,except for the shots that i've heard fired at night. The night time shots only happen every few weeks or so.Those seem like they are coming southeast from across SR82 on the south side.On two separate occasions I even heard someone maybe a block SE on Meadow , just right down the road, fire off some shots of some type of hand gun.It was rather loud.Perhaps it was a revolver as it was 6 shots in a row.

I've been in this part of Lehigh since 2002.You sort of get used to this type of stuff.
-Disclaimer- My UN "THE-COPS" is just that,a name.I am in no way affiliated with LCSO or any other law enforcement agency, nor is it an attempt to pose as a police officer.Perhaps I hold this name because I have great respect for PO's and the hard work they do.Thank you for your understanding. -End Disclaimer- :)
