In the past 3 years members of my family have been burglarized 3 times, items of value have been stolen out of their secured home and garage.  Items anchored in my own yard that have been here since my dad built the house in 1990 remained untouched until someone stole them last year to sell them for scrap.  Friday my granddaughter's bicycle which was barely a year old was stolen from her bus stop in broad daylight, yes, it was locked up and yes some one came along and took some thing that was not theirs to take.  What little independence she was allowed (one block down, two blocks over) is now gone.    It really makes me wonder where in God's name the parent's are when they see  a child they know that does not own a fairly new pretty purple bike why they don't question it, do they truly believe these things just somehow fall out of the sky?  Not much importance is placed on stolen 4-wheelers, x-boxes, games, bikes, sculptures etc. by the LCSO but those things mattered to us...we worked hard to earn the money to purchase those things or in the case of the sculpture it was commissioned by my dad from an artist in Connecticut.  If Haylee's bike is ever found it'll be in a canal somewhere or trashed in the woods.  I really do despise this place more and more every single day.

I fully understand your frustration.

Over the last 4 years I have had 2 boat motors stolen right off my boat in my driveway, in my front yard, right on Joel Blvd. in broad daylight, during a weekend when all my neighbors were supposedly home. (I went to an Indycar race on a saturday and came back that night to find my motors gone)Also have had 2 bicycles stolen , 1 of which I found 3 days later in a teens front yard about a block away. I asked the teen what he thinks he was doing, the only thing he could say was "It isn't my fault, I ain't got a dad!" I told him that is no excuse to steal. No comment back to that.

It does get frustrating, but I see a world today where no matter where you go, the crime will be there. Especially when you have teens aimessly wondering the streets at all hours of the day and night, with the parents not knowing, or almost seems like parents not caring, where their teens are. I am not saying all crime is caused by bored teens, I am saying some of it is and the parents do need to get control of their kids and until parents start living up to their responsibilities the problem is only going to get worse as more kids grow up and become teens.

Sorry for jumping on your soapbox, I will graciously give it back to you now ;-)

It's frustrating isn't it? My son's new bike was stolen a month ago from his bus stop so I can understand where you are coming from. I am sorry that happened to your grand-daughter.

It really does seem as though parents just don't care anymore. I'm sick of telling other people's kids to behave when I'm at the store. I do tell them if I have to. I had one so called 'Mom' tell me not to correct her children, I told her that if she had done it, I wouldn't have had to. They were running in the aisles and throwing some can food back and forth, when they almost ran into me (because I wasn't about to get out of their way) I told them, "Who told you kids it was ok to run and act crazy in a grocery store?! Stop it now!" Parents need to control their kids and not let them do whatever whenever. Without discipline, morals, respect and manners, these kids will be future inmates. I can't stand it when some little punk gets in trouble and the parents stand there and talk about what a nice kids he is and act surprised that he got in trouble, give me break! That is true sometimes, good kids do get their butts in trouble, but I think most of the time it is lack of good parenting that steers these kids in the wrong direction.

I'm sorry about your grand daughter's bike Yankee.

mwilson, did you talk to that kid's Mom?

I tried to talk to her, that is when I found out she was in Jail, why I do not know nor ask, and the kid was sent to live with an older sister. Shortly after I had a talk with her, like a week or 2, I ran into him again in my neighbors tree, breaking good size branches off of it. He doesn't even know my neighbors! I got in his uhhmmmm, I will say personal space, and let him know If he can not control himself, I will step in and be his dad to teach him how to control himself. He didn't like that but understood it. I do I know what happened, but I haven't seen him since that evening. I assume his sister got wind of it and decided he is too much to handle and sent him elsewhere to live. I am sorry to say but one day I am afraid I will see this kids face on the TV for something not so good. :-(
