Three suspects involved in this morning's shooting in Cape Coral have been identified.
Jarrett Mundle, 19, of Fort Myers; Patrick Rhodes Nelson, 19, of North Fort Myers; and Mike Borrell, 17, of Fort Myers, have been charged with Felony Murder, Home Invasion Robbery and Aggravated Battery.
The identification of the deceased suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
More details related to the home invasion have also been released. According to the Cape Coral Police Department, the call came in 12:52 a.m. and the caller stated that three men wearing masks and armed with firearms entered her residence, struck her in the head with a pistol and then discharged the gun before fleeing from the home. Other witnesses in the home said that the men threatened them with guns, demanded money and left the residence with some of the items surrendered by one of the occupants. There were five adults and two children present in the home at the time of the robbery.
As officers were responding to the home invasion call, a white Kia was seen driving out of the neighborhood and turning south on Del Prado Boulevard. Cape Police attempted to stop the car at 1721 Pine Island Road, and police ordered the driver out of the vehicle during the traffic stop. A gunshot was fired within the suspects’ vehicle, and the driver exited; however, another passenger took control of the vehicle and sped away. Additional shots were fired from the Kia in the direction of Cape Coral Police officers. Officers returned fire, and the Kia crashed into the rear of a Cape Coral police car. The driver exited the vehicle, walked a few feet and fell to the ground. He sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at the scene. Borrell and Mundle were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds or minor injuries, while Nelson was transported to the Cape Coral Police Station. Mundle was treated and released, and taken to the Police Station, while Borrell remains at the hospital in stable condition. Police recovered firearms and masks from the vehicle.
