Yesterday the new Fire Station on Sunshine Blvd was opened and staffed. Fire and ambulance crews are now manning the station. The Station will be equiped with an Ambulance, Fire Engine, Ladder Truck, Brush Truck and a Tanker.
Speaking of Fire. Today I volunteered to drive the PLAB committee members. As we are driving up Joel Blvd, two of them go, look . . there is smoke in the woods. So I turned around, and sure enough, there is was.
We called 911 and our firefighters showed up in just a few short minutes. It appeared a tree was struck last night by lightning, and it was smoldering today at the base near a bunch of palmettos. If these ladies had not seen this, there probably would be a large brush fire burning right now.
Good job ladies! It pays to stay alert at ALL times!
WOW! Good eyes, ladies!! Thank you very much to you and our firemen and ladies.
I just heard about this here: Lehigh Acres firefighter station opens after months of delays
While it is true the Fire Station opening was delayed by several months. What people don't know that the delays just putting in the temporary station was because some LARGE person who calls hims self an activest filed complaint after complaint about that temporary station saying it was not up to handcapped access standards forcing the fire dept to spend almost $20,000 to retrofit it. The thing is that the temporary station is only a living quarters and not a public building. Even after the handicap ramp was put on the trailer door was not wide enough to fit a wheelchair through it. When the temp trailer was put in the county first said none of those things were needed because it was just a living quarters, but this very LARGE person threatened the county and the Fire dept with law suits. So the county forced the Fire Dept to comply. The other delay was because the Fire Dept needed to run a water main up to the new station from Lee Blvd for the stations fire sprinkler system. The FGUA who is the water supplier wanted to run a 12 inch main up to the station the FD to pay the entire Half Million dollar bill although the Fire Station only needed a 4 inch main. Basically what the FGUA wanted was to get the FD to spend the money so the FGUA could use the 12 inch main for their own uses and not pay the FD back as others connected to the water main. What the FD ended up doing was using a well for drinking water and running a waterline to a canal along with a Fire Pump to use for its fire sprinkler system at a cost of $175,000. Anyone want to guess who the Very LARGE person who calles himself an activest that was that was on the board of the FGUA while all this was going on??????
Not Exactly, but I will say that this guy is LARGE enough to make Santa look like an ELF.
More Like 4.5Large, But thats him.
