Darnell,

We just received our “in House” supply numbers, and we are at a critical low for this time of the year!  I want to Thank you for putting the Blood Drives on the web-site!  Any word of mouth you can give to get people to the “Big Red Bus” on Monday from 12pm-6pm, would be extremely appreciated.

We have a machine called ALYX on the Bloodmobile.  Through this automated system a donor can give two units of red cells during one visit. (SAVING 6 Lives!)
WHO CAN DONATE ON ALYX?
ALYX donors must have a higher level of iron than needed for a typical whole blood
donation. The technician testing the iron will determine if the donor qualifies.
• Males must be at least 5’1” and weigh at least 130 pounds
• Females must be at least 5’5” tall and weigh at least 150 pounds

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
A typical donation on the ALYX System takes just 20 to 25 minutes.

LIMITED TIME INCENTIVE:   Anyone who successfully donates on the ALYX –Automated System will receive 2-$10 Publix Gift Cards.  These Gift cards will be mailed to the donor, and are not available at the time of donation.  Available for ALYX donors only !

The ALYX is exciting technology that can help with our continuing blood shortages. We hope you will spread the word.
Thank you for your dedication and support of our community’s voluntary blood donation program. Working together, we
can provide a safe and adequate blood supply for our family, neighbors, friends, and colleagues.

Thanks,

Denise A. Stiles

Just for your info before donating to the big red bus understand that they are a for profit company,if you think your blood stays here to help lee county residents think again all blood collected on the big red bus is sent to tampa and sold.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car

Even if the Blood goes to Tampa, Orlando, Miami, I look at it as a life is a life no matter where the location. It just so happens, I travel all over Florida as many of us do.

I agree, but I am pointing out to those who donate thinking it stays here that it does not.I know people who donate at lee memorial knowing that it stays in a local blood bank to be used in lee county.

Sorry, not trying to stir the pot but I think it should be known where it goes.

There are also Blood Drives on the event calendar for Lee Memorial if you prefer.

Remember, if we used only "Non-for-Profit" health institutions, they would be overloaded and our Healthcare system would fail.

The end result is life can be saved.

Bob, thanks for pointing that out to all of us. You are just full of knowledge sir!

As I said I agree,I had 2 units of blood during my stay at moffitt Up In tampa this past year and it could very well have originated from that bus I just think all the facts should be presented and I am sure any blood collected  will help someone somewhere.
