and the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Professor Paul Ortiz
of the University of Florida.
Dr. Ortiz’s talk is titled
“Black History in the Age of Obama”
It will be held on
Wednesday, February 25, at 5: 00 pm
in Reed Hall 249
on the campus of FGCU
Dr. Ortiz, Director of the Samuel Proctor Oral History Project at the University of Florida, is a nationally recognized scholar of African-American protest and praxis and author of the award-winning Emancipation Betrayed: The Hidden History of Black Organizing and White Violence in Florida from Reconstruction to the Bloody Election of 1920 (University or California, Berkeley Press).
Dr. Ortiz and Irvin D.S. Winsboro of FGCU are colleagues and friends and are working on major projects on civil rights and Florida.
This will be an exciting and informative talk by one of the nation’s recognized experts on civil rights and black history.
