People who park in handicapped spaces illegally really irk me. I've seen it quite often at out local Jack's supermarket on Joel Blvd.

If a picture were to be taken of a vehicle and it's tag parked in a posted handicapped parking space and forwarded to LE, could something be done? Does anyone know?

TIA

Your concern for abuse of handicap parking spaces is commendable.

While your proposal of taking pictures and send them to us will not work, it does not mean that nothing can be done, and you can do it.

The violation of a handicapped parking space has to be witnessed by the one writing the ticket. Here is the good news. V.O.I.C.E. personnel have the authority to write such tickets, and they do. All you have to do is call 477-1000 tell the operator of the location of the violation and a V.O.I.C.E. car will be dispatched to the scene and will take the appropriate steps.

You do not have to give your name, phone number or address to the 477-1000 operator. They will ask you if you wish to give your name, but you can refuse and remain anonymous.

Thank you for your assistance in making Lehigh Acres a more considerate community for all of us.

Thank you very much LCSO Rep. I appreciate that information and next time I see someone parking in a handicap space that shouldn't be there, I will make that call.

Thanks again!

Just remember that there are some people who's disabilities are not as visable at first glance.  I have seen more than one person verbally abused by others because they were using the handicapped spaces (yes they have the placard on the rearview mirror) when others thought they didn't need it.  Ypu never know what a persons underlying condition might be.

With that said true violators should be fully punished.

Another thing to remember is the handicapped placard belongs to the driver or passenger that is handicapped NOT the car. So don't even think about using someone elses placard for that quick dash to the store.

Well said. Note: If someone is caught using a handicapped placard and they are not the person designated, it will cost them $250 and they have to surrender the placard. This act of thoughtlessness ends up in hurting two people, the one who needed the parking space, and the one who owns the placard will be denied its use as well.

Thank you for making us aware of the abuse of the handicapped parking space. It would be very good to get the number from the car so that the issue could be addressed properly.

It is also important to be careful to identify the offender. You implied by your use of the plural "folks" that there was more than one offender or that there were a large number of offenders. Evidence to the contrary it is important not to condemn all because of the offence of one.

I am sorry maybe folks was a poor choice of words, what I ment by it was at your meetings just throw out a reminder to everyone of what these spots are for or mention someone was seen parking in one and that may deter any further problem.again I apologize for the poor choice of words,I only saw one offender.

Be careful wold1, that's a slippery slope you are on the edge of. You were on the other side of the blue wall of silence at one time, so I am sure you know what happens to those who attempt to right the wrongs of the 5 pointed stars. It is best to let them do their thing and look the other way no matter how much it may aggrivate you.
